Southern Belles

Life of Angela and I, if we were Southern Belles:

My name is Caroline Louise Walters, and my good friend Emmy Mae Baxter and I just finished the most glorious carriage ride of the year through the town of Savannah, to the Cunningham’s plantation.  It’s mid July in the hot Savannah sun was beatin’ down on us harder than a whip.  We traveled to the Cunningham’s house; you see the Cunningham’s have a son name Everett and a nephew in town visiting name William Wheaton. And oh! I do declare that once dear Mr.William laid eyes on Ms. Emmy Mae, it was like tryin’ to get a hog out the mud in this hot Savannah sun, nearly impossible to stop. See William fancied the ethnic kind. Not like most folk around here in Georgia, he liked his girls of the oriental decent. Seein’ how Ms. Emmy Mae is my best friend and the Wheaton’s are some of the wealthiest plantation owners in the south, I told Ms. Emmy, “Honey, you just must go and have a glass of tea with that nice young man over there, I DO DECLARE.” Well, you see now child, Ms. Emmy Mae did as I did say, and I heard as we were passin’ through town they Mr. William is considerin’ marryin’ Ms. Emmy Mae. Can you believe it, a true southern romance, all of my makin’!
